Family Continues Greek Food Tradition in Londonderry

A new food option for residents opened in June on Rockingham Road.

Tina Palaskas and her two sisters have grown up in the food industry, helping out their parents who have owned businesses in New England since 1972.

The family operated Brothers Restaurant Pizza and Lounge on South Willow Street for decades before turning it over to new owners. They also owned Checkers Pizza in Londonderry for a short time.

Tina and her parents Gigi and Vasilios "Bill" Palaskas are extra excited about their latest pursuit – Gigi's Kouzina – located at 217 Rockingham Road just across the Manchester border.

"We have customers raving about our food," Tina said at a ribbon-cutting for the new eatery. "I had a customer that came in that said 'we're so happy, we haven't had good Greek food in a while.'"

Gigi's Kouzina opened its doors on June 26, and she said there has been a steady uptick in business as word of the Palaskas family recipes has spread.

Vasilios praised his wife, calling her a "very, very good cook," noting that he does a good amount of the cooking himself.

He was also encouraged with the amount of customers the new business has seen despite its proximity to both Harold Square and Giovanni's.

"Every day it's getting better and better," Vasilios said.

Tina, who is now 35, said that her entire family except for her mother's parents are now in the United States. She joked that family dinners over the border in Manchester are crazy and "very loud."

Town officials, local realtors and other residents were on hand for the ribbon-cutting.
