Good Samaritans, Several Officers Pulled Man From Vehicle

Londonderry Police released additional details today in an accident that has left one man in the hospital.

Police have released additional details regarding a car accident that left a vehicle totaled off Mammoth Road and sent a single operater to the hospital with what has been reported to be severe burns.

At 6:18 a.m., Londonderry Police responded to the single car motor vehicle accident at 393 Mammoth Road.

It had been reported that the vehicle was on fire and that the operator was trapped inside.

When police arrived on scene, a good samaritan – Earl Wickline of Londonderry, was attempting to knockdown the fire with an extinguisher he had retrieved from a resident of the neighborhood. Another good samaritan, Apryl Norris of Londonderry, was also assisting at the scene.

Londonderry Police Sgt. Patrick Cheetham worked with the samaritans along with Officers Jake King and Adam Lane to free the man from the vehicle.

He was transported by Med-Flight from the St. Jude Parish parking lot to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. His condition and identity are unknown at this time. That was coordinated by Londonderry Fire.

At the time of the accident, the operater also had a dog in the vehicle with him, which did sustain injury as a result of the acccident. The dog was transported to an emergency animal clinic in Manchester by Officer Shannon Sargent. The injuries are not life-threatening.

The cause of the accident is still unknown, but Londonderry Police found in the initial investigation that the car was traveling southbound on Mammoth Road before veering off the northbound shoulder. The roadway had a layer of snow, but it has not been determined if the slick road was the cause.
