Gov. Hassan: 'Stay Off the Roads'
She's urging residents to refrain from driving until mid-afternoon today.
As the severe winter storm continues this morning and into the afternoon, Gov. Maggie Hassan is urging residents to take safety precautions and stay off the roads at least until mid-afternoon.
"Though it may seem like the storm has eased in many areas, we will continue to see strong winds into the afternoon hours, leading to heavy drifting and dangerous driving conditions," Hassan said in a statement. "New Hampshire residents should continue to stay off the roads if at all possible until mid-afternoon today.
She added that state officials are closely watching developments on the Seacoast as the risk of flooding increases.
"Our state emergency response personnel stand ready to assist local communities in any way possible to respond to any flooding," Hassan said. "Please be extremely cautious if you see flooding and alert your local first responders as soon as possible."
The governor also encouraged residents to be safe as they dig out from the snow.
"I urge people to please be careful and aware of your surroundings as you clean up," Hassan said. "Be sure to check heating, dryer and other vents on the outside of your house to be sure they are clear. And please check on and help your neighbors, especially the elderly and those who experience disabilities, and help local first responders by clearing snow around nearby fire hydrants."
On Friday night, Hassan declared a State of Emergency for New Hampshire, allowing here to mobilize state assets and resources more effectively in response to the storm.

Have folks forgotten that this is NH and we have snow. We have been lucky the last few years but in the 70s & 80 this was considered just a regular blizzard, Get real folks it is NH

The point of this is for the person to use their own common sence. We are able to make our decisions, we should not be told when to drive, pretty soon we will be told what time to get up in the morning and will will be like machines. We must take responsibility for our actions. Pretty soon we will not be able to think for our selves, we will rely on someone to tell us how to do the most basic thing in life. Let us make our own decisions and suffer the consequences that that is the teaching tool of life

For crying out loud this is getting beyond ridiculous, having gone through the biggest blizzard as a teen, one that left cars, emergency vehicles, plows clogging highways for up to a week, and one that people died in, this blathering about people telling you what to do, is pathetic.
Guess what you go out in the storm, slide off the road, spin out,get stuck what do you do, you call 911 for someone to help you. Do you expect someone to come and help you, yup, now everyone that has to come out to help you has to put themselves in harms way because you decided you knew better.

Oh, don't be ridiculous. She said "if at all possible." They just want the crews to be able to do their jobs and clean up all this drifting snow/downed trees. Take it easy.

There was a time when there were no cell phones, it snowed, you shoveled yourself out of the snowbank, and everyone survived.
Dial 911 because your car is in a snowbank, really? Those kind of irresponsible actions are the cause of these hypersensitive reactions from the government

Ummm no. If you choose to be a daredevil and go out on the road in the middle or immediate aftermath of a blizzard, you're not simply risking your life. You're risking the lives of the rescue teams who would come to your aid. You're making the clean-up work harder (and longer) for the road crews. You're wasting tax-payer resources, time, and money.
Part of "taking responsibility for our actions" is knowing when to stay put. Unfortunately, many of us lack the maturity, selflessness, and common sense to stay put. The driving ban is a deterrent to poor decision-making, as well as limiting the strain on our collective resources, and valuing the lives of our police, fire, emt and dot personnel.

""The move to ban super-sized sugared soft drinks, first reported in the New York Times yesterday, is the latest of several anti-obesity and nutrition initiatives undertaken by the administration. It is among strategies to combat what the administration has described as an epidemic of obesity and related illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes.""

My advise to Hassan is to stay in the middle of the road. She has been in the WAY LEFT SHOULDER so far.
