Power Nearly Restored, All Roads Reopened

All customers are expected to have power back by midnight.

 

Friday, Nov. 2

9:30 a.m.: The town just sent out its latest storm update, saying that power is expected back for all residents today. PSNH has not yet posted its latest town-by-town outage report. There are no remaining road closures in town.

As a reminder, trick or treat is set for Sunday, Nov. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m.

7:30 a.m.: As of 11:30 last night, only 24 customers were still without power in Londonderry, and as of this morning, PSNH says all but three dozen customers statewide have power back.

Thursday, Nov. 1

4:40 p.m.: PSNH says virtually all customers should have power back by midnight.

“Thanks to the hard work of all the crews and support personnel, as well as the cooperation of the communities, we're going to beat our earlier projection and finish virtually all work by midnight tonight," said PSNH President Gary Long. "This restoration will have been completed in less time than our work after Storm Irene in 2011. I’m proud of the efforts of all involved who have been working tirelessly to restore power to all of our customers safely and as quickly as possible.” 

As of 4 p.m. today, PSNH reports that about 2,500 customers statewide remain without power, mainly in pockets of the hardest hit communities, including Derry, Londonderry, Weare, Windham, and portions of the Monadnock Region. Currently, 604 Londonderry customers, or 6 percent of town, are without power.

3:15 p.m.: Only 662 Londonderry customers, or about 6 percent, are still without power, according to PSNH's 3 p.m. update.

1:30 p.m.: King Philip and King John are now open, according to the Londonderry Fire Department. Sparhawk remains closed.

Also, as of 12:30 p.m., 808 Londonderry customers, or 8 percent of town, are still without power.

PSNH says 95 percent of town should have power back by 10 tonight, with full restoration scheduled for noon on Friday.

10:55 a.m.: As of 10:30 a.m., PSNH reports that there are just 986 customers, or fewer than 10 percent of town, without power.

10:40 a.m.: Here's the latest storm update from Londonderry Fire Chief Kevin MacCaffrie:

Power restoration continues in Londonderry, with full power expected to return for all residents within the next 48 hours. Over the last 24 hours, several thousand residents have had their power restored; with approximately 1,400 still without power, this improvement should continue as crews work with the main focus on the southern and western section. Expect that major gains will be made over the next 24 hours.

Please notify PSNH whenever your power goes out or if it is still out if your neighbors have power.

Roads are being opened up quickly now that limbs are removed and lines restored. The current list is as follows:

  • King Phillip Drive
  • King John Drive
  • 1 Sparhawk Drive 

Halloween is on for Sunday, Nov. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Water is available for sanitary and drinking needs at all fire stations.

The Leach Library is closed today for work on the HVAC system.

The Moose Hill Room at town hall is available for charging devices and has a public wireless connection.

The Londonderry High School gym will remain open for personal hygiene purposes from 6 to 8 a.m. and 4 to 9 p.m., at least through Friday.

10 a.m.: As of 8:30 a.m., only 1,194 customers, or 12 percent of town, are still without power in Londonderry.

8:30 a.m.: Auburn Road is open and Pine at Loop is open, but King John, King Philip and 1 Sparhawk are still closed, according to the Londonderry Fire Department.

7:45 a.m.: As of 6:30 a.m., only 1,474 customers, or 14 percent of town, are still without power in Londonderry. That's a huge gain of about 1,500 from last night.

Wednesday, Oct. 31

5:40 p.m.: Hovey Road is now open, according to the Londonderry Fire Department.

5:20 p.m.: As of 5 p.m., there were 2,981 customers still without power in Londonderry.

5 p.m.: As of 3:30 p.m., there were still 3,359 PSNH customers without power in Londonderry, or about 32 percent of the town.

3:45 p.m.: The Londonderry Fire Department just tweeted that Rockingham Road at Sanborn is now open.

2:45 p.m.: The Londonderry Fire Department just tweeted that Kimball Road is now open to traffic.

1:45 p.m.: As of 12:45 p.m., there were 3,452 Londonderry customers still without power, or 33 percent of the town. That's also about 140 fewer than at 10:30 a.m.

12:20 p.m.: According to PSNH, there were still 3,591 customers without power in Londonderry as of 10:30 a.m. That's about 35 percent of the town, and about 300 fewer than at 6 a.m.

Noon: Power restoration continues in Londonderry, with full power expected to return for all residents within the next 48 to 72 hours. Over the last 24 hours several thousand residents have had their power restored. This improvement should continue as crews work hard here before heading to help those in New York and New Jersey.

Trick or treat is on for Sunday, Nov. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. The Londonderry High School gym will remain open for personal hygiene from 6 to 8 a.m. and 4 to 9 p.m. at least through Friday.

8:30 a.m.: About one-third of Londonderry, or 3,861 customers, are without electricity at this hour.

Schools are open, and a shelter will open at the high school at 4 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 30

6 p.m.: Due to the number of power outages, Londonderry has postponed trick or treat until Sunday, Nov. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Fire Chief Kevin MacCaffrie says that PSNH has determined it will take time to restore power to all Londonderry customers. Additional crews from Quebec will be working on Wednesday to continue the restoration process.

  • Manter Mill at Old Derry
  • Auburn Rd at Wilson to Old Derry
  • King Phillip at King Arthur
  • King Edward at King John
  • Darrow at the rotary
  • Hovey at cemetery
  • Charleston at Albany
  • Sparhawk
  • Pine at Loop
  • Kimball at Coventry

5:15 p.m.: Londonderry will open a shelter at the high school on Wednesday at 4 p.m., according to acting Town Manager and Police Chief William Hart.

Londonderry schools are expected to be open on Wednesday.

4:45 p.m.: This just in from the Fire Department: Londonderry High School gym will be open for showers from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Please bring your own toiletries.

4 p.m.: Due to Hurricane Sandy the library hours have changed this week. Leach Library will now be open until 5 p.m. today and we will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31. The HVAC replacement unit is now scheduled to be installed on Thursday, Nov. 1, Friday, Nov. 2 and possibly Saturday, Nov. 3. Town officials have advised the library to close during this process.

3:30 p.m.: PSNH is reporting that 6,775 customers, or 65 percent of town, are still without power at this hour. PSNH officials said on a call this afternoon that residents should be prepared to a multiple-day outage, and that he couldn't give a deadline for when all power will be restored.

10:45 a.m.: The Town of Londonderry says there is a wireless hotspot in the Moosehill meeting room at Town Hall if anyone needs to use it.

7:30 a.m.: Fire Chief Kevin MacCaffrie sent out an email this morning saying that 10 roads remain closed around town. About 67 percent of PSNH customers in Londonderry remain without power.

School is closed today, and crews are already getting started on power restoration. No decision has been made yet on whether to open a shelter in Londonderry.

Monday, Oct. 29

10 p.m.: School is canceled in Londonderry on Tuesday. There are multiple reports of downed trees and road closures throughout town, and a large portion of the town is still without power.

6:30 p.m.: Fire Chief Kevin MacCaffrie said the latest forecast calls for another 2 to 3 hours of rain and wind, which should start to diminish around 10 p.m.

Multiple trees have fallen on wires, and several sections of town are without power. High Range Road at Rolling Ridge Road are still blocked by wires, and a tree is blocking the road at 3 Pine St. Courtland is blocked by a tree as well, he said.

6:15 p.m.: A tree hit a building earlier this evening on Pleasant Street in Londonderry, according to Fire Chief Kevin MacCaffrie. There was some roof damage and water leaking, but no injuries, he said.

The Fire Department provided some tarps to seal up the building and the power is being shut off.

5 p.m.: About one-third of Londonderry is now without power, according to PSNH. The outage numbers across the state continue to rise, with about 100,000 customers now without electricity in New Hampshire.

4 p.m.: Fire Chief Kevin MacCaffrie says some radio stations are reporting that Londonderry's shelter has opened, but those reports are untrue. He said the only area shelter open right now is at the South High School in Nashua.

"We are in standby mode until tomorrow when we will evaluate need unless something significant happens tonight," MacCaffrie said.

3:45 p.m.: Fire Chief Kevin MacCaffrie reports that High Range Road at Rolling Ridge Road is blocked by a wire down. PSNH is responding. There is also a tree down on Peabody Row, and the Department of Public Works is responding.

MacCaffrie urges motorists to stay off the roads for the next eight hours if at all possible.

2:45 p.m.: PSNH is now reporting 77 Londonderry customers and 359 Derry customers without power.

1:45 p.m.: All arrivals and departures listed on the Manchester Boston Regional Airport website have been cancelled.

1:30 p.m.: No power outages reported in Londonderry yet, but there are 362 Derry customers without power, 106 in Chester, and 78 in Windham.

11:50 a.m.: The Leach Library is closing at noon due to the storm. Today's Halloween Program with Big Joe the Storyteller has also been postponed.

11 a.m.: No major updates from the town right now, but Fire Chief Kevin MacCaffrie reminds residents to be prepared for power outages and to stay away from downed power lines.

Outages should be reported directly to PSNH; for other emergencies, call 911.

MacCaffrie also urges residents to limit travel during the afternoon and evening hours during the expected height of the storm.
