July 18 THE BREW CD release party: A series of acoustic shows by The Brew, Amesbury-based and now heard on radio stations from coast to coast, Roots and Roads will pay tribute to some of the artists that have shaped their sound, songs and soul during 10 years of gigging across America. Roots and Roads is an evening of three-part harmony, song craft, and stores of encounters with the likes of Levon Helm, Bruce Hornsby, Bill Kreutzman, Gregg Allman, and remarkably, Buddy Holly. Songs by these legendary artists will be paired with Brew tunes they have influenced. Londonderry's Concerts on the Common series kicks off tonight at 7 on the Town Common. Tonight's performance is a Londonderry High Music Showcase, featuring Jazz Lab, Rock Orchestra and Jazz ensemble groups. It's the last concert for the seniors in the jazz band. In case of inclement weather, the show will be held in the Matthew Thornton Elementary School gym. We have FOUR new shows to announce this week! July 13 THE FOOLS: The Fools barged onto the Boston music scene with their first single "She Looks All Right in the Dark". Known for their outrageous live performances the band quickly gathered a loyal and ever-growing audience. Their first national (and then international) hit record, "Psycho Chicken," was a parody of Talking Heads' Psycho Killer. With the signing of the band to EMI Records came the first two albums "Sold Out" and "Heavy Mental". Touring North America first with The Knack and then with Van Halen helped to place the band firmly on the national stage. August 8 NEW RIDERS of the PURPLE SAGE: The New Riders of the Purple Sage, signed to Columbia Records by Clive Davis, released its eponymous first album in September 1971 to widespread acclaim. In the next 11 years the band toured and released over 12 albums, selling over 4 million records. NRPS began as a part-time spin-off from the Grateful Dead when Jerry Garcia (pedal steel guitar), Phil Lesh (bass) and Mickey Hart (drums) teamed up with John Dawson (guitar, vocals) and David Nelson (guitar).
