What a Weekend: Fairy Tales, Psychics and a Carnival

Here's a look at 5 things to do in Southern New Hampshire this weekend.

1. For the fans! Bring the family to the Monarchs Summer Fan Fest at the Verion Wireless Arena in Manchester on Saturday, Jul. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, will hold the third annual Summer Fan Fest at the Verizon Wireless Arena from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20. Fans of all ages are invited to join the Monarchs as they celebrate the summer in style! It is the halfway point until the Monarchs embark on their 13th season in the American Hockey League. The plaza of the Verizon Wireless Arena will be turned into a carnival-like atmosphere with inflatable bounce houses, a live band, photo opportunities with Max, games with former Monarchs players and a blowout sale at the Monarchs Pro Shop featuring equipment, jerseys, T-shirts, hats and much more! A portion of Elm Street, from Lake Avenue to Auburn Street, will also be blocked off for Manchester’s largest Street Hockey Tournament, presented by TSR Hockey! Four divisions compiled of eight teams each will play a three-game, round-robin style tournament. The top four teams in each division will then compete in the playoffs for their shot at the championship. Games will be comprised of two, seven minute halves. The entry fee for the Street Hockey Tournament, presented by TSR Hockey, is $75 with proceeds benefiting the Monarchs Care Foundation. Participants in the tournament will also receive a ticket to the Monarchs Opening Night in October.

2. Carnival! On Saturday, July 20, from 11am to 4 pm the YMCA of Greater Nashua will be hosting its annual Camp Sargent Family Carnival with fun and games for  kids of all ages. Come join the fun! There will be games and activities around  the camp. Kids can also enjoy a dunk tank, petting zoo, bounce house, face painting, spin art, and balloon animals. There is a nominal fee for the activities. Food and drink will be for sale. The grills will be fired up  for a barbecue. Cost is $5.00 per person for the luncheon under the pavilion. Proceeds will benefit the YMCA’s In Motion Dance Team’s  $50,000 pledge to the new Nashua YMCA and Camp Sargent. For more information contact Randy Menken at603.880.4845. 3. Family Fun! The TD Bank Free Summer Concert Series is back at Veteran’s Park in Manchester on Thursday, Jul. 18 from 7-9 p.m. Free, Family Friendly Activities, Fun! Bring your lawn chairs, blankets etc! Tonight’s performance will feature Lil' Iguana and Ben Rudnick & Friends. Look out for Patriotic in the Park- With The Army Rock Band next week. 4. Crossing over! John Edward will be at the Palace Theater in Manchester on Friday, Jul. 19 at 7 p.m. John Edward is an internationally acclaimed Psychic Medium, Lecturer, and author of several New York Times best sellers, including Infinite Quest. John Edward is known for his popular internationally syndicated television shows, Crossing Over with John Edward and John Edward Cross Country. A John Edward Seminar event lasts for 2 hours and consists of Question & Answer sessions, and exciting opportunities to experience messages from the other side. Tickets at the door are $125.

5. Once upon a time! The Nashua, NH Fairy Tale Festival will take place at Greeley Park in Nashua on Saturday, Jul. 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It's all free, View Live Acts on Stage, participate in over 43 activities throughout the park win prizes when joining in the quest and every child goes home with a free book about the event.
