Does the Mayor of Dover, N.H. Need Some Help Finding Manchester, N.H.?
We would like to remind the Dover mayor that as our organization's name accurately asserts - we are a New Hampshire group, not an "out-of-state" organization.
As the only New Hampshire mayor on New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's "Mayors against Illegal Guns" coalition, Dover Mayor Dean Trefethen recently found himself answering some serious questions after a rally in Concord last week. At it, the group memorialized killers, including Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Christopher Dorner, the former Los Angeles police officer who killed multiple individuals.
In response to criticism for his role in the group, the Dover mayor was quoted in both the Union Leader and Nashua Telegraph referencing Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire's recent television advertisement focusing on Senator Jeanne Shaheen's deciding vote for Obamacare and the impact it will have on middle-class Granite Staters. Mayor Trefethen was quoted as saying that those criticizing him "should be outraged at an out-of-state group attacking Shaheen on Obamacare."
Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire, a Granite State issue advocacy group, would like to remind the Dover mayor that as our organization's name accurately asserts - we are a New Hampshire group, not an "out-of-state" organization.
In fact, as seen on our website, our office can be found at 540 Chestnut Street, Manchester, NH.
Derek Dufresne, Spokesman for Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire, released the following statement:
"A simple look at Citizens for a Strong New Hampshire's website would inform Mayor Trefethen of our office's location right in downtown Manchester, New Hampshire. It could be that Mayor Trefethen, who has been diligently working with an organization based out-of-state, might need to become more familiar with groups based in New Hampshire. Or, perhaps the Mayor of Dover just isn't that familiar with the City of Manchester.
"Either way, we would encourage the Mayor of Dover to do some research prior to making comments such as those he made in the Union Leader and Nashua Telegraph. He also might want to take the same precautions when considering what groups he publically supports."
