Former Londonderry Town Auditor Dies

Arthur J. Desmarais, 83, of Derry, NH passed away Friday, July 5, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 27, 1930 in Lowell, MA, a son of the late Joseph A. and Grace (Coakley) Desmarais. Prior to moving to Derry one year ago, Mr. Desmarais was a resident of Londonderry since 1964, formerly living in Lowell, MA. Arthur proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a packaging engineer for Raytheon Corp, retiring in 1993 after 35 years. As an engineer, he worked on the HAWK and PATRIOT missiles. He was a communicant of St. Jude Parish in Londonderry, where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Desmarais served as an auditor for the Town of Londonderry during 1970’s.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley C. (D’Ambroise) Desmarais of Derry, three daughters, Michelle Desmarais of Londonderry, Valerie Caruso and her husband Gregory of Londonderry, and Marisa Desmarais of Derry, three grandchildren, Gemma, Olivia and Quentin, all of Londonderry, two brothers, Robert Desmarais of Nashua and Thomas Desmarais of Dracut, MA, one sister, Eugenie Malandrino of Dracut, MA, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, James Desmarais in 1996.

Calling hours were held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from 5 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00am in St. Jude Parish, 435 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry with burial to follow in Pillsbury Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Arthur’s memory to the St. Jude Parish Building Fund, 435 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH 03053.
