Londonderry Woman Dies After Courageous Battle with Cancer

Loretta Agnes Dalton Wertz died peacefully on August 10, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, the fourth daughter to Patrick Joseph and Margaret Dalton, Irish immigrants. Loretta attended parochial schools and attended private college after graduation. She met her husband Lloyd Wertz Jr. in Kansas while he was learning to fly in World War 2. They later married in San Francisco on October 6, 1944. They would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in October. Together, they made their home in Pittsburgh, PA, Baltimore, MD, Princeton Junction, NJ, Boxford, MA and finally for the past 14 years in Londonderry, NH where they could be close to both of their children and their families.

In her early years, Loretta was a homemaker and a real estate agent, eventually retiring from GTE Sylvania in Danvers, Ma. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and vacationing in Rehoboth Beach, DE, traveling to Ireland as well as many more memorable trips with her husband. She loved to play bridge with her friends and was active in many bridge groups throughout the years. She was an active member of the Neighbors & Newcomers group in Londonderry. Loretta was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all. She dedicated her life to insuring her family was happy and healthy and enjoyed all of them tremendously. She will be greatly missed.

Loretta is survived by her husband, Lloyd Jr. of Londonderry, a son Lloyd Wertz, III and his wife Carol and their children Hunter & Logan of Londonderry, a daughter Deidre Stone and her husband Brian and their children Tara, Patrick and Alison, great grandchildren Kamrein & Sadie Stone, sister in law Margaret Wertz of West Mifflin, PA, and many dear friends including Suzi and John Kane of Londonderry. She was predeceased by her three sisters, Genevieve (Tiny) Dillard, Margaret Crowley and Regina Pickett.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Londonderry and the Hospice House of Merrimack for taking such wonderful care of Loretta during the past several months.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 14th from 6 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry.
