Fire Destroys Abandoned Derry Home

The blaze was reported at 2:25 a.m. on Friday.

An abandoned home on Drew Road was destroyed by a fire early Friday morning.

The blaze at 6 Drew Road was reported at 2:25 a.m. Friday by someone who was driving past it. Derry and Salem engines responded to the scene, along with tankers from Hampstead and Chester.

Upon arrival, firefighters found an abandoned house engulfed in flames. Crews utilized hoses designed to apply large amounts of water to extinguish the flames from outside the structure. Once the fire was extinguished, crews performed extensive overhaul, removing exterior siding and cutting holes in the building to access several smoldering hot spots. The fire was contained to the house and no other structures were damaged.

Accessing the fire was made more difficult by knee-deep snow. The building, a one-story, single-family home, is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Londonderry, Windham, Manchester and Hudson provided station coverage.
