Firefighters Rescue Cats from Burning Building

One person was also evaluated for smoke inhalation.

One person was injured in a fire at 99 Franklin St. in Derry on Tuesday morning.

The Derry Fire Department received three calls around 11 a.m. reporting a building fire in the area of 3 Folsom Road. A full first alarm responded, including three engines, a ladder, an ambulance and a shift commander.

The first fire vehicle was at the scene within two minutes. Upon arrival, they found the actual fire location was a 1-1/2 story single-family home at 99 Franklin St. Heavy fire was showing from the rear of the building, and smoke from the front.

The fire was knocked down quickly, and declared under control by 11:31 a.m. Fire damage was contained to the first floor, but there was heavy smoke damage throughout the entire building.

Derry firefighters were assisted at the scene by Derry Police, Londonderry Fire, Auburn Fire, Windham Fire, Public Service of New Hampshire, and the Salvation Army. Londonderry, Salem, Chester and Hampstead firefighters provided station coverage.

A single victim was evaluated for smoke exposure, but did not require treatment or hospitalization. Two cats were also rescued during the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
