Ayotte Presents Purple Heart for World War I Veteran

Londonderry resident Kathryn Fernald accepted the honor on behalf of her late grandfather.

U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) presented a Purple Heart on April 17 to Londonderry resident Kathryn Fernald, who accepted the honor on behalf of her late grandfather, Chris Wick.

Wick earned the Purple Heart for injuries serving in the U.S. Army in France during World War I. Fernald contacted Ayotte’s office to request a replacement Purple Heart after the original was misplaced.

"Honoring our veterans is one of my greatest privileges as a U.S. Senator," Ayotte said in a press release. "I’m so pleased to present Kathryn with this replacement Purple Heart, which will serve as a lasting reminder of her grandfather’s courageous service to our nation."
