NH Soldier Awarded Purple Heart Medal

Sgt. First Class Paul Dimond, a member of the 1st Battalion, 304th Regiment based in Londonderry, was injured in an attack in Afghanistan in 2011.

Sgt. First Class Paul Dimond, currently a member of the 1st Battalion, 304th Regiment based in Londonderry, will be honored at the New Hampshire Statehouse on March 28 with the Purple Heart Medal for his service in Afghanistan.

Dimond was injured on Dec. 8, 2011, when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device during an Afghan National Army graduation ceremony.

Gov. Maggie Hassan is hosting the Purple Heart ceremony at the Statehouse and will be accompanied by dignitaries, including U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, and U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-NH, to thank him for his service and bravery.

It is quite a month for Dimond's family. Earlier in March, his father-in-law, John Morse, was honored with the Purple Heart in Blount County, Tennessee for service in the Vietnam War.
