LHS Gears Toward Beautiful Lengths Event

The seventh edition of what has become an extremely popular charity event at Londonderry High School is set to take place in January.

First organized in 2006 by the school's popular English teacher and pep rally coordinator Steven Juster, the Pantene Beautiful Lengths event has become a staple of the school year.

According to Juster, over 1,200 donors, or "angels" as he calls them, have had their hair cut to make wigs for cancer patients that are distributed by the American Cancer Society.

At least eight inches of hair is needed to be able to participate.

"Their hair is often cut by friends and family, many of whom have dealt with cancer and cancer treatment, then "fixed" by a fleet of volunteer stylists," Juster said.

The 2013 version of the event is just shy of 100 donors. It will once again be held in the gymnasium in front of the entire school, and will take place on Jan. 11.

On Tuesday, Juster and Roger Grondin, a professional photographer in town, meet with the participating donors to take "before" pictures with the event six weeks away. Grondin will return on the day of the event for a group shot and "after" pictures.
