Pinkerton Grad Drafted by Mets

First baseman Zach Mathieu was taken 476 overall.

UPDATE: Pinkerton Academy grad Zach Mathieu was chosen by the New York Mets with the 476th pick in the Major League Baseball Draft, according to the Union Leader.

Mathieu was one of several players with New Hampshire ties chosen in the draft.

A Derry native is among the New Hampshire residents who could get picked in this weekend's Major League Baseball draft, according to WMUR.

WMUR Sports Reporter Kevin Gray lists first baseman Zach Mathieu of Pinkerton Academy and Franklin Pierce University as one of the six New Hampshire residents most likely to be drafted.

According to his page on the Franklin Pierce University website, Mathieu hit .370 this year, with 13 home runs and 49 runs batted in while playing 58 games this season. He also scored 59 runs and stole 10 bases.

While at Pinkerton, he was a three-year letter winner and two-time All-State selection. He also played three years of basketball at Pinkerton.

The MLB draft starts today and runs through Saturday, consisting of 40 rounds in all.
