Mark D. Haynes, Sr., 72, of Derry, NH, died Thursday May 16, 2013 at his home in Derry, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Brighton, MA on August 22, 1940, a son of the late Dewey O. and Elizabeth (Floyd) Haynes, and had been a resident of Derry for the past 32 years, formerly living in Brookline, MA. He was a graduate of St. Columbkille High School in Brighton. Mr. Haynes was a US Army veteran serving during Vietnam. He had worked for over 30 years for Cambridge Brands in Cambridge, MA. He enjoyed golfing and woodworking. 3rd Brigade Combat Team loses 1st Lt. Paul DeMeo; investigation in progress.
UPDATE: 1st Lt. Paul DeMeo of Derry died after passing out during a routine brigade run last week. According to an email from the Army, DeMeo passed out during a "BDE run" on May 14 and died upon reaching the hospital. These brigade runs are typically performed by military units around sunrise for physical fitness. Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Peabody Funeral Homes in Derry. Born August 17, 1926 in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, Ruth spent her childhood with her parents Ernest and Signe Thompson, and sister, Jean, in Pennsylvania, New York, and Connecticut. She loved her alma mater Mount Holyoke College, where she earned a B.A. in French with a minor in music. A lifelong learner, she went on to earn an advanced degree in Chemistry from Wesleyan University. In June, 1954, she married photographer and clarinetist David Brooks.
